2025 MLS Cup Playoffs: Philly, Whitecaps, San Diego Take Series Openers
The 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs continued on Sunday with the opening games of three conference quarterfinal series.
At Subaru Park, Chester, Pennsylvania:
After a 2-2 regulation draw, and with overtime dispensed with, the Philadelphia Union won their penalty-kick shootout with the visiting Chicago Fire 4-2 and won the opening match of their best-of-three of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.
Milan Iloski, who made a goal in the shootout, scored in regulation (75').
The series will continue this coming Saturday at Geekseat Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois (2:30 PST, Apple TV).
At BC Place, Vancouver, British Columbia:
Daniel Rios (43'), Thomas Muller (PK-60'), and Kenji Cabrera (83') each tallied a goal as the Vancouver Whitecaps dominated visiting FC Dallas 3-0 in the opening game of a best-of-three Western Conference quarterfinal series.
The series will continue at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas this coming Saturday at 6:30 PM PST (Apple TV).
At Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego:
Onni Valakari (23') and Anders Dreyer (30') each scored a first-half goal as San Diego FC held off the visiting Portland Timbers 2-1 in game one of a best-of-three Western Conference quarterfinal series.
Kristoffer Verde scored a goal for the Timbers in the 36th minute.
This series will continue this coming Saturday at Portland's Providence Park at 6:30 PM PST (Apple TV/Portland's KXTG radio).
