MLS Cup Playoffs: LAFC Holds Off Austin In Series Opener

  At BMO Field, Los Angeles: In the lone Wednesday MLS Cup Playoff match, Nathan Ordas scored the winning goal in the 74th minute as the Los Angeles Football Club held off visiting Austin FC 2-1 in the opening contest of a best-of-three Western Conference quarterfinal series. This series will continue on Sunday at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas at 5:45 PM PST (Apple TV/Fox Sports One/Fox Deportes). Remember folks, this coming Sunday marks the return of Standard Time. 

MLS Cup Playoffs: NYCFC Take Series Opener At Charlotte

At Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, North Carolina: In the lone MLS Cup playoff match on Tuesday,  Alonzo Martinez scored in the 34th minute as New York City became the first team to win a playoff game on the road this year by knocking off Charlotte FC 1-0 in the opening match of an Eastern Conference best-of-three quarterfinal series. The series will continue coming Saturday (12:30 PM PDT/Apple TV) at New York's Yankee Stadium.

MLS Cup Playoffs: Cincy, Loons Win Series Openers

  The MLS Cup Playoffs continued on Monday with the opening games of two best-of-three conference quarterfinal series. At TQL Stadium, Cincinnati: Ahoueke Steeve Kevin Denkey scored the only goal of the match in the 78th minute as FC Cincinnati defeated the visiting Columbus Crew 1-0 in the opening game of an Eastern Conference best-of-three quarterfinal series. The series will continue at Columbus' Lower.com Field on Sunday, November 2 at 3:30 PM PST (Apple TV). At Allianz Field, St. Paul Minnesota: After a scoreless regulation, and with overtime dispensed with, Kelven Yeboah, Nectarios Triantis, and Joaquin Pereyra all converted their penalty kicks as Minnesota United defeated the visiting Seattle Sounders 3-2 in the shootout as the Loons took the opening game of a best-of-three Western Conference quarterfinal series. The series will continue at Seattle's Lumen Field next Monday at 7:45 PM PST (Apple TV/FS1).

2025 MLS Cup Playoffs: Philly, Whitecaps, San Diego Take Series Openers

The 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs continued on Sunday with the opening games of three conference quarterfinal series. At Subaru Park, Chester, Pennsylvania:  After a 2-2 regulation draw, and with overtime dispensed with, the Philadelphia Union won their penalty-kick shootout with the visiting Chicago Fire 4-2 and won the opening match of their best-of-three of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. Milan Iloski, who made a goal in the shootout, scored in regulation (75'). The series will continue this coming Saturday at Geekseat Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois (2:30 PST, Apple TV). At BC Place, Vancouver, British Columbia: Daniel Rios (43'), Thomas Muller (PK-60'), and Kenji Cabrera (83') each tallied a goal as the Vancouver Whitecaps dominated visiting FC Dallas 3-0 in the opening game of a best-of-three Western Conference quarterfinal series.  The series will continue at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas this coming Saturday at 6:30 PM PST (Apple TV). 2025 MLS Cup: Leo The Lion Helps Inter Miami Top Nashville In Series Open

  At Chase Stadium, Fort Lauderdale, Florida: Lionel Messi scored twice (19', 90'+6) as Inter Miami held off visiting Nashville in the opening match of a best-of-three Eastern Conference quarterfinal series as the MLS Cup Playoffs entered its' final round of 16 on Friday. The series will continue next Saturday at 4:30 PM PDT at Geodis Park in Nashville (Apple TV).

MLS Cup Playoffs : Fire, Timbers Advance

  Major League Soccer's playoffs commenced on Wednesday night. At SeatGeek Stadium, Bridgeview, Illinois: Hugo Cuypers scored twice (57', 68') as the Chicago Fire outdistanced visiting Orlando City 3-1 in their wild-card playoff and will face the Supporters Shield-winning Philadelphia Union in their best-of-three Eastern Conference quarterfinal series, set to open this coming Sunday in the city of brotherly love (2:30 PDT)  in Chester, Pennsylvania's Subaru Stadium. At Providence Park, Portland, Oregon: Felipe Mora scored twice (24', 35') as the Portland Timbers downed visiting Real Salt Lake 3-1 in their Western Conference wild-card match to advance to a conference quarterfinal best-of-three series against San Diego FC with the opening match set for Sunday (6:30 PM PDT) at San Diego's Snapdragon Stadium. All games are to be streamed live on Apple TV.

MLS Cup Playoffs To Open On Tuesday

  Major League Soccer's MLS Cup playoffs are set to open on Tuesday with two games. At Seatgeek Stadium, Bridgeview, Illinois: The Columbus Crew will pay a visit on the Chicago Fire with the winner to take part in an Eastern Conference best-of-three series with the new Supporters Shield-winning Philadelphia Union. This game opens at 5:30 PM PDT At Providence Park, Portland Oregon: Real Salt Lake will battle the homestanding Portland Timbers (at 7:30 PM PDT) with the winner to face Western Conference division champion San Diego FC in a best-of-three conference quarterfinal series.

Timbers Make Playoffs

Despite dropping their most recent Major League Soccer match to the Seattle Sounders at Seattle's Lumen Field, the Portland Timbers still clinched a berth in the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs. The Timbers will close out their regular season at home in Providence Park against San Diego FC (6:00 PM PDT on Apple TV/KXTG Radio) on October 18. The Timbers currently sit in seventh place in Major League Soccer's Western Conference.
