MLS Cup Playoffs: Cincy, Loons Win Series Openers

 The MLS Cup Playoffs continued on Monday with the opening games of two best-of-three conference quarterfinal series.


At TQL Stadium, Cincinnati:


Ahoueke Steeve Kevin Denkey scored the only goal of the match in the 78th minute as FC Cincinnati defeated the visiting Columbus Crew 1-0 in the opening game of an Eastern Conference best-of-three quarterfinal series.


The series will continue at Columbus' Lower.com Field on Sunday, November 2 at 3:30 PM PST (Apple TV).


At Allianz Field, St. Paul Minnesota:


After a scoreless regulation, and with overtime dispensed with, Kelven Yeboah, Nectarios Triantis, and Joaquin Pereyra all converted their penalty kicks as Minnesota United defeated the visiting Seattle Sounders 3-2 in the shootout as the Loons took the opening game of a best-of-three Western Conference quarterfinal series.


The series will continue at Seattle's Lumen Field next Monday at 7:45 PM PST (Apple TV/FS1).
